In the run up to the confirmation hearing for Sen. Jeff Sessions as attorney general on Tuesday, Rev. Dr. William Barber led a group of protesters Monday at a #StopSessions rally in Washington, D.C. Framed as a “Moral March against Trump’s cabinet of bigotry,” the interfaith action organized by Barber, Rev. Jennifer Butler, and Rabbi Jason Kimelman-Block called on "all people of conscience" to "stand up for our deepest moral values of love, justice and mercy." Barber writes:
We must also defend ourselves and our neighbors against attacks on our constitutional principles of equal protection under law. Because of our love of neighbor and country, people of faith from across the nation join together today in moral resistance to Donald J. Trump’s nomination of Senator Jeff Sessions as Attorney General of the United States.
Protesters gathered at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation on East Capitol Street and marched to the Russell and Hart Senate Office Buildings.
